However, Steve Clarke’s side has failed to make it to the knockout stages in their past 12 appearances in the tournament. Fans will hope that the manager can weave his magic wand this summer. With the nation paired in a group alongside Germany, Hungary, and Switzerland, Steve Clarke has a fair chance of leading the team to the knockouts. The manager has left nothing for granted despite his selections being hindered by injuries. Scotland has one of the best defenses in their group and will hope skipper Andrew Robertson can lead the charge from the front. While the rest of the side isn’t shabby by any standards, Scotland will surely rely on their defense to make the most of this opportunity. (*coming in for Euros 2024) Scotland has a relatively experienced squad with 14 players selected for the Euros playing in the tournament’s previous edition. Notable names that did not make the cut include Jacob Brown, Ben Doak, Lyndon Dykes, Lewis Ferguson, Craig Gordon, Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson. Lawrence Shankland: With multiple top players missing in the attack, Lawrence Shankland could be Scotland’s hidden ace. The striker is the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership with 24 goals for Hearts. It will be interesting to see if Steve Clarke can make the most out striker, through his formation. Billy Gilmour: The Brighton & Hove Albion star could get his breakthrough for the national team this summer. Despite a subpar run from Seagulls, Gilmour was one of the few players who shone under Roberto De Zerbi. The Scotsman is great with the ball under his feet and could be perfect for Clark’s tactics. The Scotland head coach could go with his trusty five-at-the-back formation, which pans into a three in the back in the latter stages of the game. Scotland predicted playing XI: Angus Gunn; Ryan Porteous, Jack Hendry, Kieran Tierney; Anthony Ralston, Callum McGregor, Billy Gilmour, Andrew Robertson; John McGinn, Scott McTominay, Lawrence Shankland.
